Tradition has always had navigation and menus in either the top or left positions as in the west our eyes are drawn to this area through our reading conventions. It was also traditionally the first area to load on a page and where search engines began reading, but more recently this has changed so that a more flexible approach is possible.Before your design begins you should give some thought to the basic layout and page structure of your site pages. When completing the workbook you will be asked to outline sites that appeal to you. It would be beneficial to keep the general layout and structure of these sites in mind as you choose them. • Do they demonstrate a layout you would like? • Is this one of the reasons that you like a site? • Is the layout a key factor in why the site is good?
